Fun in the Concan Area: Action here focuses on the Frio River, flowing with clear, cold spring water through 100,000 acres of scenic beauty. The Frio originates in northern Real County and fed by springs and streams, tumbles over limestone rock to create waterfalls, rapids and pools on it's way to maturity at Concan in Uvalde County. Along the banks are boulders, bluffs, and grassy spots shaded by pecans, live oaks, sycamores, and giant centuries old cypress trees. Residents of this "Land of 1100 Springs" are proud of the natural beauty of their area and encourage visitors to help preserve it. Year around activities include fishing, hunting, hiking, climbing, bird and wildlife watching, horseback riding, mountain and road bicycling, and driving the spectacular mountain roads. In the fall, see the pristine nature of the canyon filled with the turning foliage's crimson and orange. On about March 7th, the hummingbirds migrate into Concan by the thousands and stay until the cold weather comes. The favorite warm weather activity is, of course, swimming in and floating on the Frio River.

Fishing is a popular off-season activity.                The Frio River can be floated year around.
